January 2023

Lincoln Academy

Everyone enjoyed a relaxing Christmas break and returned on Wednesday, January 4! Teachers and students were excited to see one another and return to our school routine.  We are all looking forward to a successful second semester of school at Lincoln Academy!

We extended a warm welcome to Mrs. Lori Martin and Mrs. Donna Brooks, who have joined our teaching staff.  They have been delightful additions to our school.

The 5th graders had a lesson about the Boston Tea Party, so their teacher treated them to their very own tea party in the classroom.

Mr. Michael, with 4H, continues to come once a month to work with our 4th - 8th grade students.  He has offered opportunities for our students to participate in extracurricular activities.  We have students who are raising bunnies at home and others who are competing in a Lego contest!

Our partnership with Hawthorne Conservatory allows Ms. McFadden to have choir with our 2nd and 3rd graders. The students like learning about music and singing new songs!

Little Linc

Our Little Linc Preschoolers are growing up as our school year progresses.  The teachers are focused on preparing each child for the coming year of school.  We are assessing the children’s learning to date and adjusting our teaching to meet every child’s needs.  Our goal is to transition as many of our graduating students as possible to Lincoln Academy and walk through the application process with their parents.  We will also start accepting applications for Little Linc in February.  Please pray with us for God to bring the families who need to be a part of our program to us.

One special part of our preschool program is our Parent Power meetings.  We gather the parents three times a year to encourage and guide them.  This week we had the privilege of hearing from Pastor Alex Shipman of the Village Church.  He spoke to the parents from 2 Peter 1:3-11 about what really matters in 2023.  Instead of setting New Year’s resolutions, he encouraged the parents to be in relationship with Jesus.  When we remember our own salvation and walk in diligence in our relationship with Jesus, He works out His promises in our lives.  It was encouraging to have a time for the parents to share some of the positive things and challenging things they are experiencing in their own families.  Please pray that our Little Linc families would connect with local churches and be encouraged to walk with Jesus.

As we begin 2023, we need to pause and remember the goodness of God at the end of 2022.  Christmas is such a sweet time at Little Linc, and this year was no exception!  The children presented a beautiful nativity play for their families and friends as well as our Lincoln Academy students.  The truth that Jesus came as a fulfillment of God’s promises to be our Savior was proclaimed.  We were so thankful to the many churches and groups who helped make Christmas so special for our Little Linc families.  Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, Mosaic City Church, Career Tech Clubs from Huntsville High, and Pour Some Sugar on Me Bakery provided shoes and socks, pajamas, toys, Bibles, and cookies to decorate for every family.  HopeTown Church provided for some specific needs with two preschool families, and the Village Church provided items from our wish list for the preschool. We are so thankful for the generosity of these groups and individuals who have been the hands and feet of Jesus to our Little Linc families.

Youth Programs

Last year Learning Lab started a new tradition of allowing one of our 8th graders to play Santa Claus at our Christmas party. It was such a hit that we did it again this year. Our 8th grader loved playing the part and the younger students enjoyed having Santa pass out gifts. They rewarded him with lots of hugs.

Mr. Lyle stays in touch with our school families even outside of school hours! He recently ran into one of our families while he was shopping for fishing supplies. They expressed an interest in learning to fish and so he invited them to join him the next day. He was able to share his love of fishing with the students and their parents. They had a great time and this 6th grader caught his first fish ever!

Donor Spotlight

We could not do what God has called us to do without all of our generous donors and we thank you for your support!

Donor and volunteer, Dr. Ramsay Nuwayhid, explains why he and his wife give to Lincoln Village.

“Elizabeth and I love Lincoln Village! We have been involved with LVM through giving our time, through giving our physical service, and through being faithful financial partners for many many years! We support this ministry financially not because they are building structures over the heads of families, not because they are clothing and feeding the families of this area, not because they are meeting the physical needs of these families, BUT because they are sharing Jesus with them. Every dollar we give to Lincoln Village and every hour we give to serve is an opportunity for the families and residents of Lincoln Village to see Jesus. It’s an opportunity for them to experience His presence. It’s an opportunity for them to feel His love. This ministry is not just putting a band-aid on things. This ministry is being the hands and feet of Jesus, showing who Jesus is, showing that Jesus cares, showing that Jesus understands, and teaching each and every one of the residents of Lincoln Village to believe in themselves, to believe in the God who created them, to pursue their God-given purpose, and then to inspire those around them in their own neighborhoods and beyond. We are so proud to partner with Lincoln Village Ministry,  and we are even more blessed as they intentionally seek to keep God first in everything.”

Volunteers

Volunteers have been busy all around Lincoln Village, from passing out Christmas goodies to participating in SERVING Saturdays. We could not do what God has called us to do in this community without the help of volunteers. Special thanks to Anglin, Reichmann, and Armstrong, i3, Keel Point, and Johnson and Hayes Physical Therapy as well as our faithful church partners for all your hard work. If you or your organization would like to get involved at Lincoln Village, please reach out to Janah Baker. We look forward to serving with you soon!
