August 2022

Lincoln Academy

And we’re off! Summer is over and school is in session! August has already been very busy and full of wonderful happy faces and hellos! The month started with a parent meet and greet. We welcomed back most of our students and enjoyed meeting some new Lincoln Academy family members!

The other big news for August is hot lunch will be served three days a week! Thanks to Cynthia Hart’s feeding schools outreach program for providing lunch two days and the generosity of the Huntsville community for providing pizza every Friday!  What a blessing to have so many come together to care for our students! So far, the lunches have been a big hit!

Additionally, we have returned to group worship! The students have really missed this time together and were very excited to hear that we were bringing it back! Mark led the first gathering. The staff and students had a great time and are looking forward to our next time of worship!

Little Linc

Little Linc Preschool is back in session for our 9th year serving the Lincoln community.  On our first day of school, we welcomed 26 children into our two preschool classrooms. Our returning pre-K students were so happy to see their friends and get back into the school routine.  We are thrilled to have 100% of our former three year old class returning for this school year.  New friends joined us as we introduced Bible time and calendar, learned to do centers, ate snacks, and played on the playground.  It was a great first day!  The teachers are slowly introducing new routines, stretching attention spans, and teaching the children how to "do" school.

Please pray with us as we begin our school year.  We desire to build relationships with our students and parents where there is mutual trust and respect.  Please pray for peace and protection for our students.  And most of all, please pray for the Gospel to impact the lives of the families at the preschool.

We are so thankful for your partnership!!!  If you would like to help the preschool in a tangible way, we are always blessed to receive individually wrapped snacks, cleaning wipes, baby wipes, and tissues.  We also have a Charity list on Amazon: Little Linc Wish List

Wednesday Worship

Wednesday Worship is BACK! Our Academy kids start every other Wednesday with Worship and the Word! This is one of the many ways throughout the week that we point our kids to a God who sees them, knows them, and LOVES them.

Volunteer Highlights

This summer ended just as strong as it began with volunteers and we are so thankful for all that was accomplished through their time and talents! A team of 30 volunteers from Augusta, GA spent the week helping with demolition clean up, painting, minor construction and several smaller tasks in preparation for the new school year, including a fresh new color paint on our front door! They were also able to hear from one of our Field Staff Reps and her husband about the work in Lincoln Village and what it's like living here as a community family.

Additionally we were visited by youth groups from Clear Creek Church of Christ (Chattanooga, TN), WestArk Church of Christ (Ft. Smith, AR), and Oakcrest Church of Christ (Oklahoma City, OK). We spent time learning about the vision and mission that God placed on Mark's heart 20 years ago when Lincoln Village Ministry began as well as what poverty looks like in their cities and ours. We talked about the different types of poverty and ways they could practically mitigate those things in their hometown. Students then got the opportunity to invest some sweat equity in projects all around Lincoln. These students were integral in helping us prepare for the new school year and ensure that the facility was prepared for students.

A Church of the Highlands Small Group came alongside one of our Davidson Street neighbors that had a left leg amputation 18 months ago. He has been unable to easily come in and out of his home since being in a wheelchair. This group of faithful volunteers filled this huge need by building him an amazing wheelchair ramp. Special thanks to Ramsay Nuwayhid for providing materials and recruiting help for this project!

WOW Employees spent 3 days with us this month during what they call WIN, WOW in the Neighborhood. These employees met in our Lincoln North Welcome Center where they learned about all God is doing through Lincoln Village. They then went and cleaned, painted, and prepped properties for residents coming to the community soon. We cannot express how thankful we are for all of these groups investing their time in Lincoln Village.

SERVING Saturday takes place every Saturday from 8-11:30 (except for holiday weekends) and we appreciate all the groups and individuals that serve with us week after week and month after month. Summit Crossing, St. Andrews, Westminster, and Huntsville Baptist were represented the past few weeks. If you would like more information about how you, your small group, or organization could get involved please contact janah@lincolnvillage.org. We look forward to serving with you soon!

Thank You for all the School Supplies!

We are so thankful for all the companies and individuals who responded to our request for school supplies! The teachers were thrilled to be able to outfit each student with the supplies needed for a successful school year! What a joy seeing the students receive these gifts from our community! Our classrooms and shelves are well stocked! Thank you to so many including Mill City Church, WaveLink, Inc., Whitesburg Baptist Church, Cove Church, Dawn Chenault and Cathy Maner, and several others!

Come Celebrate With Us!
