Lincoln Academy

Our fourth through eighth grade students look forward to 4H day every month!  This month, Mr. Michael taught them about planting seeds.  He provided heat lamps so that the students could watch their flowers and vegetables grow in the classroom.

Fifth grade students had the opportunity to visit American Village in Montevallo.  After learning about the American Revolution in the classroom, it was fun to see it come to life through interactive experiences!

Second grade students enjoyed a rainy day trip to Burritt Mountain for their annual Farm Day!  They loved the view and getting to see all of the animals.

Did someone call BINGO? Yes! Students from every grade brought their favorite grown-ups to play Book BINGO this month. Everyone had a great time and went home with books!

Lincoln Academy is GROWING!

Lincoln Academy currently has one class per grade K-8. However, starting this Fall, we will introduce a second Kindergarten class! Demand has always been high for kids entering Kindergarten to attend Lincoln Academy and God has been faithful in allowing us to open up a second classroom. With this new class, comes new needs and we would love for you to check out our Amazon wishlist for the upcoming school year. Thank you for considering supporting Lincoln Academy in this way!

Little Linc

Little Linc Preschool enjoyed a special Community Night in April.  Our preschool families and teachers gathered for an evening of fellowship.  First everyone pitched in to complete some spring cleaning, organizing, and playground maintenance tasks.  Afterwards, we enjoyed pizza and popsicles while the children played on the playground and the parents chatted.  We love opportunities to get to know our preschool families and also encourage them to build supportive friendships with one another.  Parenting is hard work, and having friends in the same season of life is a blessing!

A special part of our preschool day is our after school program.  Renee Carlson leads our amazing team of teachers as they provide enrichment opportunities and hands on learning until 5pm, Monday through Thursday.  They take our Bible lessons to a deeper level and enjoy a weekly praise and worship time.  The pre-K children this year are learning about animals and habitats around the world during after school.  From geography to animal facts, the children are growing in their vocabulary and knowledge of God's world.  Our after school team also incorporates meaningful play into their afternoons, setting up a science observation area and other centers to reinforce the topics they've studied.  A favorite activity was recreating a bird's nest with playdough and loose parts from nature.  We are thankful for the many people who support Little Linc with their prayers and financial gifts so that we are able to provide a safe, engaging environment for our preschoolers.

Neighbor Spotlight - Jessica Burwell

Jessica and her daughter, Semone, came to Lincoln Village in the Spring of 2019. At the time, she was living with her mother while going through a difficult divorce, working 3 jobs, and pursuing a nursing degree. Her goals were to complete nursing school, develop financial and emotional stability, and buy a house. Little did she know what all God had in store for her!

Jessica was highly motivated from the beginning of her time here. She already had a strong faith background and immediately started taking advantage of the resources available to her. She enrolled in and graduated from Cornerstone’s Faith and Finance program where she learned how her spiritual and financial health are related. From there she pursued a certificate in cyber security through a scholarship that was offered to her. Upon completing this program she was hired in the cyber security field and was able to go from working 3 jobs to 1. This also provided her with consistent hours where she was able to prioritize time with her daughter. During this time, Jessica started working toward her Master’s Degree and is one class and one thesis away from completing this goal.

Jessica took advantage of the Evolve’s Matched Savings Program. She set aside money every month and this money was matched by generous donors of Lincoln Village. With this money she was able to put an earnest payment on a house that she ultimately purchased this month. Jessica’s time at Lincoln was a time of rest and reprieve from past hurts while also pursuing goals she didn’t even know she had. God completely changed her career path and what she thought her future had in store. Doors were opened that she never thought were possible and God’s faithfulness was displayed time and time again. Jessica has repeatedly expressed how thankful she is for her time here at Lincoln and is expectant for all God is going to continue to do now that she has graduated from Evolve.

While this is just a very small glimpse of all that happened while living here, God has showed himself in many ways over the last 5 years. Jessica is the keynote speaker at this year’s Beautiful Things lunch and would appreciate your prayers and she stands up to speak on behalf of all God did in and through her here at Lincoln Village!

Beautiful Things

Our annual Beautiful Things luncheon is coming up on Tuesday, May 7. Please pray for this event and our very own, Jessica Burwell, as she speaks about her time at Lincoln Village and how it has impacted her life. This event is crucial in raising awareness about all God is doing in our community.

Summertime at Lincoln

Summer Break is just around the corner the corner which means most of our students and teachers will be getting a well deserved break.

However, things do not slow down at Lincoln! Not only do we increase the number of visiting groups we host, continue housing renovations, have residents move in and out, we also have only TWO months to whip the school buildings back into shape. We focus on minor repairs, waxing the floors, touch up painting, teacher requests, and other updates to the properties.

With all that we have to do, we would love your help! If you or a group would like to join us sometime in the near future, please go to our website lincolnvillage.org click on Get Involved > Volunteer > Sign Up to Volunteer. Complete the form to let us know when you would like to come and someone from our team will be in touch soon! Thank you for supporting the mission of Lincoln Village in this way!
