New Committee Sponsors Parade of Lights Contest

The newest committee of the Lincoln Village Neighborhood Association started off in a big way. At the same regular meeting where the creation of a Social Committee was formally approved by the LVNA's Executive Board the new committee's chairperson, Lori Kennedy, announced that her group would sponsor an Annual Parade of Christmas Lights Contest in Lincoln Village. Even though the 2005 Holiday Season is coming up quickly, the new committee is upbeat about  lining up some well known judges and awarding fun prizes.

The Social Committee has already narrowed down the field of decorated homes to 15 finalists from more than 65 homes who entered the contest. Final judging takes place on the third weekend of December, when Councilman Dan Skoglund, former Mayor Ken Cooley, City Prosecutor Dick Margarita, and others will check out the decorations.

Prizes announced by the Social Committee include 2 Kings tickets for the first place winner and lots of goodies for the second and third place homes. All homes that entered the contested and showed the holiday spirit will also receive a letter of thanks and praise from  the Social Committee.

The Social Committee was formed by LVNA to increase community awareness of the Association, promote neighborhood spirit, and to provide a way for members to have fun. For more information call 715-8901 or email Admin@LincolnVillage.org.

Goals Meet and Goals Set

LVNA Looks Back at 2005 and Ahead to 2006

The general membership and Executive Board of the Lincoln Village Neighborhood Association set aside portions of several of their regular meetings during the Autumn season to carefully review the association's accomplishments during the past year, as well as to set goals for 2006. It was encouraging to see how much has been done in a short time by LVNA and empowering to our membership when we realize how many changes in Lincoln Village can be made by our collective actions.

As Matt Cummings, Chairperson of LVNA's Government Affairs Committee, noted  "We took a great step ... to take back our streets and send a message that neighborhood associations can make a difference." Active membership in the association continues to increase, LVNA has forged important bonds to elected officials, and we look forward to 2006.

Yvonne DeHaan

Remembered

Lincoln Village and LVNA were saddened to learn that Yvonne DeHaan passed away on December 3rd from colon cancer.

Yvonne was the head of Rancho Cordova's In-Shape program. It was through her roll with In-Shape that most LVNA members knew Yvonne. She was among the first officials to work with LVNA on improving the Village and a constant cheerleader for the association's ability to make a difference.

She also served as the Chairperson for the Weed and Seed Steering Committee.

"Yvonne was really small of stature, but she rode high in the saddle" observed Matt Cummings, one of the LVNA members who worked closely with her during the last two years

                    SEWER LINE WORK

County Sanitation District 1 (CSD-1) officials advised LVNA that a yet to be determined number of homes in Lincoln Village will be included in the next phase of the "Double-Wye Separation" program.

The Double-Wye replacement program is a comprehensive sewer rehabilitation project by CSD-1 to convert roughly 7,500 homes built before 1971 from shared sewer service lines to single line service for each home. The old style double-wye service resulted in many clogged lines with back up that frequently flooding one and sometimes both homes with raw sewage.

CSD-1 employees will be passing out information sheets about
two weeks before working on a line. A second notice is made
about a day or two before any work.

Whisperings Around Lincoln Village

Congratulations to Bob McGarvey who has been named Mayor of Rancho Cordova for 2006. David Sander will be the Vice Mayor.

The old Village East Apartments are now sporting signs with the new name, Cascade.

The ADA work on Lincoln Village Drive is finished. The resurface work will not start until sometime in April of 2006.

CalTrans has changed the east-bound on ramp onto US-50 from Bradshaw Road to a metered ramp. This meter functions during both the morning and afternoon rush-hour periods.

The State of California will soon have workers in that office complex on the corner of Routier and Old Placerville Roads. Watch out for heavier traffic at Lincoln Village Drive and Routier.
