| So you feel like Mexican. You have some choices. You can always drive to one of those expensive chain places. You know the places I am talking about. They are the sort of place where you're waited on by a kid whose only interest in you is the size of the tip she hopes you'll leave. Your food is prepared by a cook who has never been closer to Mexico than his senior-class trip to Disneyland. These are the chains where their PA system plays one tape of "Mexican music" selected by a marketing agent based in New York City. Your better choice would be to stop at Brianna's Mexican Restuarant on Lincoln Village Drive. It may look small from the outside, but this is the "real deal". The staff smiles, because they really like people. The food tastes authentic, because it is. The atmosphere is neighborly, because you may actually see your real neighbors here. Best of all, you may leave with some real money left in your pocket but with your tummy really stuffed. Appetizers Brianna's has a nice choice of appetizers from traditional nachos (which you can upgraded with either beef or chicken for a small fee) to a large cocktel de camaron (shrimp coctail). My personal favorite is their quesadilla. The guacamole sauce is just perfect --- not to spicey, but bold enough to hold your attention. Drinks Yes they have wine margaritas, and favored ones including strawberry, banana, and peach. They also have a good choice of imported beers and Mexican drinks --- Bohenia, Paficico, jarritos and horchata to name but a few. But they also have a nice choice of non-alcoholic beers and soft drinks. Where else can you get a first rate Shirley Temple or Roy Rogers around here, except at Brianna's? Main Course One friend of mine ordered the chimichanga on his first trip and fell so in love with their version that he has yet to order anything else from the menu. Sure their beef, chicken or pork chimichanga are great, but so are their other eighteen dinners. All ingredients are fresh and each meal is prepared to order. Sauces and the spices are bold, but not overpowering. A few of their other "stand out" dishes for me have been the flautas, their fajitas, and I have a special weakness for their homemade tamales (the beef is good, the pork is great). Brianna's also offers several dozen combination plates, so its easy for visitors to mix and match between their personal favorites. Sides and Specials They have a short list of side dishes, perfect for someone needing to file in an empty corner. For guest 12 and under there are a half dozen or so "Children's plates" ($4.00 to $4.50). Brianna's also offers a "senior's special" ($6.50, available from 3 until 5 pm) and a dozen or more "Lunch Specials" ($4.85 to $6.50 until 5 pm). Large groups and Banquet Room Brianna's suggests making reservations for groups of six or more. The phone number is 364-5805. There is a Banquet Room available for special occasions and for groups. LVNA has used this room a few times for "after event meals". We have easily had groups of twenty in the room. Other notes Yes takeout is available. Phone 364-5805 with your order or fax it to 364-0103. If you go Tell them you read about Brianna's at the LVNA website. |
